A fully online route through Nervous System Sovereignty

Nervous System Sovereignty is a 100-hour Somāntra training that brings together Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra and Meditation. It is designed for people who want to understand these practices in depth, experience them personally and learn how to guide others responsibly.

You can study from wherever you live. The programme combines structured online lessons, guided practices, written resources, reflection, assignments and four live Zoom sessions within the Restorative Yoga component. There are no in-person attendance dates for this route.

Rather than treating rest as something to achieve, we examine the conditions that make it possible: physical support, breath, attention, appropriate choices, clear teaching language and respect for each person’s experience. The Somāntra Approach brings these elements together with yoga’s wider teachings and a careful reading of contemporary ideas about stress and the nervous system.

This training may be taken as a standalone 100-hour programme or as part of the wider Somāntra yoga education pathway.

What is the Somāntra Approach?

The Somāntra Approach asks you to consider the body as an interconnected physical and experiential landscape. A posture is more than its visible shape; a meditation is more than a technique; a period of rest is more than a pause between activities.

Throughout the training, you will consider structure, breath, attention, perception and lived experience together. You will study what a practice asks of a person, how they might respond, and how to adapt your teaching without assuming that one method suits everybody.

We draw on traditional yogic enquiry and relevant contemporary knowledge while distinguishing teaching practice from medical treatment. The aim is to make thoughtful decisions and hold space with care, rather than promise a particular physical or emotional outcome.

What This Training Is Really About?

Module II establishes the foundation of embodied teaching through nervous system literacy, regulated presence, and conscious facilitation.

Rather than approaching yoga as effort or achievement, this training explores:

  • How the nervous system responds to stress and safety

  • Why rest is essential for cognitive clarity and emotional balance

  • How stillness supports physical recovery and long-term resilience

Students learn to recognise patterns of dysregulation within themselves and within group environments, developing the ability to guide practices that support recovery from burnout, fatigue, and chronic overstimulation.

This is not about doing more.

It is about learning when to pause, how to listen, and how to hold space without force.

Why This Training Is Essential Today

Woman holding water in her palms over a pond

We are living in a world that moves like a constant current - fast, forceful, and rarely still.

There is always something to respond to, something to fix, something to keep up with.

In this momentum:

  • Rest begins to feel uncomfortable, almost unfamiliar

  • Productivity is mistaken for purpose

  • A dysregulated nervous system starts to feel like the baseline

It is like watching water that has never been allowed to settle.

When the surface is constantly disturbed, you cannot see clearly beneath it.

This training invites a different relationship.

Not one of stopping the current, but of understanding it.

What You Will Explore

  • Nervous System Literacy - Understand how stress, trauma, and overstimulation impact the body and mind.

  • The Physiology of Safety - Learn how the body experiences safety and why it is the foundation of all healing.

  • Restorative Yoga (Beyond Props) - Move beyond shapes into truly restorative, nervous-system-led practices.

  • Yoga Nidra as Deep Regulation - Understand Nidra not as relaxation, but as a powerful state of conscious restoration.

  • Regulation-Based Meditation - Learn meditation that supports the nervous system rather than overwhelms it.

  • Non-Performative Teaching - Shift from “teaching to impress” to holding space for genuine experience.

  • Understand Dysregulation in Students - Develop the ability to understand subtle cues of stress and overwhelm in group settings.

  • Holding Safe & Grounded Spaces - Learn how to create environments where students feel supported, not pushed.

  • Self-Regulation Before Facilitation - Build your own internal stability before guiding others.

  • Application in Modern Contexts - Work with clients experiencing burnout, anxiety, fatigue, and emotional overload.
